“You Are the Moment”: A Maternity Photo Session Prep Guide That’s All About You
You don’t need to know how to pose or be an expert in front of the camera. You don’t need to worry if the kids will cooperate or if your partner isn’t a natural smiler. You don’t even need to worry about how you look—because that’s my job. And I promise, I’m really good at it.
My maternity sessions are all about you—your glow, your strength, your softness, your power. My only goal is to make you feel amazing and completely at ease, because when you feel good, you look good. That’s how we get those magic, emotionally rich images that feel like art and love wrapped together.
Before your session, here are a few tips to help you feel confident, prepared, and most of all—excited.
What to Wear (and What Not to Stress About)
Start with YOU.
Pick your outfit first!
What makes you feel confident and comfortable? That’s your outfit.
I usually recommend something form-fitting to highlight your bump, but flowy dresses are welcome too—we can switch between both if you like. Have a few options ready when I arrive, and I’ll help you decide what will photograph best.
Keep it soft and timeless.
Neutrals always work beautifully, but soft earth tones, pastels, and muted florals are all fair game. Avoid neons, busy prints, and graphic tees that can pull focus from your face and belly. Want to add some personality? Jewelry, a hat, or a textured shawl can add a lovely touch.
Nails matter.
We'll be taking close-ups of your hands, so make sure your nails are either polished or clean and natural—whatever suits your vibe.
What to Expect During the Session
You don’t have to perform for the camera.
I’ll guide you every step of the way with gentle direction, simple movements, and prompts that feel more like conversation than posing.
We’ll capture a mix of everything: dreamy shots of you alone, some with your partner, and of course, the whole family if they’re joining.
Think of it less like a photoshoot and more like an hour spent being present and celebrating the beauty of this wild, tender chapter.
Your only job is to just be—I’ll take care of the rest.
Got Older Kiddos or Toddlers?
I’ve got this. Really. Kids don’t need to “behave” for magical photos to happen. In fact, I prefer when they’re just being themselves. No need to discipline or force smiles—I'll guide the energy and use my tried-and-true games and prompts to keep things flowing.
Let them be wild, let them be snuggly, let them be them. That’s when the magic happens.
P.S. Bribes are totally welcome.
A promised treat after the session can work wonders.
Just Remember This…
You don’t need to be a model. You already are.
Time and time again, I hear moms say:
“I’ve never liked a photo of myself until now.”
“You made me feel so pretty.”
“I can’t believe this is me.”
That’s what happens when you feel safe, celebrated, and seen.
And that’s the kind of experience I’m really, really good at creating.
I’ve got you!
